Experienced on or around July 1st, 2000 - by

This happened a long time ago, when I was about nine, and I had almost forgotten it. But another UFO story brought this back to memory, and I decided to type it up.
It was summer - I spent my days using every last ray of sunshine to play with my three best friends, who happened to live on either side of me. Most days we got together around 8:00 AM, separated only for dinner, and parted long after dark. This particular day my friends were taking a long time with dinner, so I spent a while playing with chalk alone in my driveway, waiting for them. It was about seven, so the sun had barely started to go down. The sky was mostly clear with a few fluffy clouds here and there.
I happened to look up in the sky after playing for a few minutes, and something caught my eye - a small, dark oval way up in the sky, moving slowly. I thought it was an airplane, but the shape was all wrong. It had no wings or anything. Just a long oval, like a cigar. I immediately got excited. I'd always had a fascination with the paranormal, so the notion that I was really having a UFO experience thrilled me. I watched it with buzzing anticipation. After about two minutes, it finally went behind a cloud. It never came out the other side.
It was so high up in the sky that I couldn't get a solid look at it, but I know for sure that it was not a blimp or anything. I've seen plenty of those since I live near a beach. This was something entirely different, something I can't explain. I don't know how strongly I believe in UFOs, since so many stories seem too far fetched, but I don't know how to explain this one.
