Experienced on or around April 25th, 2009 - by
Deep Dark
The date is just an estimate, but anyways, around Easter I had an odd experience. At my cottage in Northern Michigan there is this mountain. The area around the mountain is pretty populated because it is on a large lake and the mountain used to be a ski resort but it closed down. Even though the area is populated, the mountain itself is abandoned except for a few houses on the lesser hills. You can still see the outposts of the ski lifts and some old snowmobile trails. I was walking on one of these trails with my boyfriend when we happened to go off the trail to do a bit of exploring. We were pretty deep in the forest when we happened upon a deer leg. The leg was pretty fresh and the rest of the body was no where to be seen. There was no blood except for some on the leg. He wanted to take it back, but I was afraid. I had heard legends of the Dogman and Werewolves so I knew to be cautious. We looked around some more but we didn't find anything. We were confused because it wasn't deer season. Deer season is in the fall. Although someone could have been hunting, we ruled that out because they would have taken the whole body leg and all. And the leg hadn't been shot off. My boyfriend is a hunter and he confirmed this. It looked as if the leg had teeth marks. We didn't examine it too closely because we didn't want to touch it. After exploring for a few more minutes we heard a branch crack. We looked around, but didn't see anything. By this point I was feeling very afraid of whatever was out there that could take down a deer. He was thinking about a bear but there aren't any bears on the mountain. Only deer and cyotes. And cyotes aren't even close to being big enough to kill deer. We heard a branch crack again even closer. Needless to say, we started running away from the scene. We didn't even look behind us, just kept running up to the top of the mountain and then back down to the populated area. We didn't tell anyone about the experience besides finding a deer leg.
A few months later around the 4th of July I decided to go to the top of the mountain. When you are climbing to the top there is an easy trail to take that is bordered on both sides by trees. As I was walking on my left side there were three deer just beyond the trees. I stopped to take a few pictures with my camera that I had. While I was taking the pictures I heard growling coming from behind me. I turned around but I couldn't see anything because the trees were thicker. Remembering my previous experience a few months ago, I didn't stick around. Whatever it was could be hunting and I could become the hunted. I wasn't about to be hunted so I went back to my cottage.
