Contact With A Pendulum
A friend of mine that shared an interest in the paranormal moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico in the early 70s. Out of boredom as much as anything, we started using a pendulum to contact spirits. Essentially, it was just a class ring hung on the end of a length of sewing thread, suspended over a sheet of paper with a circle of letters and a "yes" and "no" answer on it. I can't tell you it was some kind of frightening experience but it certainly can be a little eerie to see a heavy class ring held at a 15-degree angle from dead center for a full second before being lowered slowly toward center again but it goes a long way toward defeating theories that skeptics often promote about manipulating responses...consciously or subconsciously. Looking back, I can say we got consistently stronger responses on nights when thunderstorms were in the area which made me think that stormy night seances aren't just about creating the right atmosphere for people to scare themselves.
Well, TAPS enters with the goal of disproving a haunting amd believes that whatever they can't disprove must stand as evidence. They might think that dragging all their electronic gear into a house with a thunderstorm in the area is an unnecessary risk to their equipment but so is going home with no compelling video to share with their viewing audience. Maybe there's a middle ground for them that wouldn't involve them trying to provoke a spirit into an angry attack to get some footage. There's times I think they should have named the series "Ghosts Gone Wild".
It actually makes perfect sense. On a night when storms are occurring, there is usually an abundant amount of energy in the atmosphere, and lightning itself is static electricity shooting forth from the earth towards the clouds.
With that kind of energy in the air, I'm not at all surprised that your "connection" was as powerful as you say it was.
I'm sure you've heard the theory that spirits require energy to have an effect on things in our plane of existence... which makes one wonder why shows like Ghost Hunters and Paranormal State don't take these things into account when they're planning a visitation.
