Last week I went into the laundry room at my apartment complex to get my clothes out of a washing machine when I heard a loud squeak at the window. The window was covered in steam on the outside due to a vent that releases the steam from the dryers, but there is a grate that prevent anyone from being able to touch the window on the outside due to security reasons.
There was another woman in the laundry room, who had gotten there before me and was gathering her things from the dryers. She and I both heard the loud squeak and the childish giggling that came after. She looked at the window before I did, and her eyes got wide. "What the hell?" she asked, and I turned to see what she was talking about. There were handprints in the steam that were quite obviously on the outside, especially since there was no other person in the room with us. She quickly gathered her things and dashed out the door. She did not go back into the laundry room that night.
Quite shaken, and feeling as though something menacing was watching me, I loaded my clothes into a dryer as quickly as I could and went back to my apartment. I considered taking the camera into the laundry room, but I ended up doing dishes instead (I am still kicking myself for not taking photos.).
When I went back to the laundry room to get my dry clothes, both of the faucets on the laundry room sink were turned on all the way and all the dryer doors on the bottom row were open. NO ONE was in that room between the time I left it and I came back, because no other dryers or washers had been or were being used. (Also I would know, because I can hear the laundry room door slam from my apartment, as it is very loud.) I turned off the faucets, and went to get my clothes from the dryer.
The whole time I felt a menacing presence and saw a shadow of a being standing very close, first on one side, and then the other. I started singing the only thing I could think of (This is the day that the Lord has made) as a defense, I know it sounds dumb, but it worked at least to make me feel better, and I booked it out of the room as soon as I got the dryer started. I returned the next time with my husband and there was a strange man in a suit (I've never seen him in the complex before) folding a single hankercheif (he had no other laundry) at the table. He swayed on his feet like a drunkard, and turned to look at us. I smiled at him, and he looked right through me, pushing past us like we weren't there, muttering something under his breath. I heard the door close behind me and looked out the window, but there was no one outside. There was a shadow over the laundry room, and it was much darker than it should have been, even for night. My husband felt the presence too, and the strange thing was, the dryers on the bottom row were closed, but on the top row, all except the one I was using were open. Unless the weird, crazy drunk man opened them (which would not surprise me)
I think we have a poltergeist. Also, how come I didn't hear him go in, and why would he be in there to wash ONE handkerchief? It's just all too strange, though explained away easily, besides the window mischief, that is...
