Experienced on or around May 1st, 2008 - by Luna
Sleeping danger
Hi, my name is Michelle. I'm 16. This experience happened when i was around 12 to 14 (and still to this day). Let me begin to tell you what my situation was at the time.

1) I was in middle school at that time.

2) I was/always will be, a night owl >.< I would stay up until like 2 in the morning. (I like to read books-alot)

BUT my buss comes at 7 so I would get like 4 hours of sleep..

Anyway, my point is that I would get really really sleepy when I got home - to the point where I would take 2 hour naps every day. As I started to develop this habit strange/scary things started to happen to me in my sleep. I'll describe as best as I possibly can.

When I would be sleeping my mind would wake up but my body would be stone solid, like I couldn't will my body to move. At the same time my heart would be beating so fast, It was almost impossible. And a lot of the times I wouldn’t be able to breathe too. I would be terrified beyond belief when this happened (it happened alot actually, about 3 times a week) When I was in these situations I would scream in my mind, MOVE MOVE HELP. As for the not breathing and weird heart beat, I would try to rationalize in my head that the blankets where over my face and I needed to move them. But always, I would be left there in that trance. A lot of times I would hear this terrifying whispering noise, like a lot of people were whispering at the same time.

That experience sometimes led to another experience I would have. In my mind I would “wake up” – that is when I would have a dream, sort of, of myself waking up and walking around my house. But I would wake up for real, and be really confused.

This next part is by far the most bizarre experience. One day, I took a nap on my bed, face down. I woke up to a strange ticking at my nose. When I looked down I saw a furry blue carpet. This was the carpet next to my bed. I was somehow floating a few inches off this carpet. Out of the corner of my eye, I could see the wood work of the bed next to the carpet. At the time I didn’t know what to think because my vision was blurred kinda.

That was somehow a dream and when I woke up I was completely spooked out.

I've had two of the same problems you have had. I've had myself wake up in my dreams before, leading to another dream, and I'd believe I was awake, walk around and do whatnot, But when it started happening over and over again, I began getting freaked out and kept waking my boyfriend up repeatidly in these dreams cos I was scared, and when I actually got out of those dreams, they messed with my head so bad I wasn't sure if I was actually awake or not.

And as far as the body thing, that's happened to me before too. I'm not sure why it happened, but I couldn't talk, or move, and I wave screaming to, and nobody heard me. I wanted to get up, and I couldn't so I wanted my recent boyfriend to help me, and for some reason I was like paralyzed.

If you ever figured out why these happened, or how you can prevent them. You should let me know.

it's most likely what you said, sleep paralysis. You're brain wakes up but your body thinks it's still sleeping. you're most likely hearing the blood rushing in your body and the accelerated heart beat could be from panic you feel in your dreams. and the fact that you wake up panicking and you can't move makes you panic more.

Usually dreams of not being able to move reflect suppressed emotions of being trapped or something along those lines. You just gotta figure out why you feel like that and maybe reflect on it for a while and see if you can fix those feelings or adjust your life-choices. The dreams may stop.

Thanks ^^ I did some research and there's this thing called 'sleep paralysis' and its description matches my experiences.. so i guess thats what it is. Something else happened a few days ago too. I was sleeping and it felt as if someone was choking me..i dont even know. I think ill post it as a full story though. Thanks for the comment ^^
